Sophie Zucker: Sophie Sucks Face
Also featuring David Brown!
Sophie Sucks Face is a new musical about love, incest, the widowhood effect, and American-Israeli relations hailing from writer/performer Sophie Zucker. When Sophie accidentally hooks up with her cousin, she must decide to shun him or seduce him at the next family gathering. The one-woman show is a modern evolution of the greatest Jewish comediennes, invoking Barbra Streisand, Elaine May, and Gilda Radner. The original music is all bops – like how radio stations used to play “Grease.” In light of much heated online discourse – who is allowed to tell Jewish stories; who’s allowed to represent Jewish characters – the show is both a relevant subject of these debates and a commentary on them. It has been called “funny, tender and, best of all, thrilling” by Theatrely and a “delightful showcase of [Sophie’s] cornucopia of talents, but equally as important, very very funny” by Paste Magazine. At its mostly sold out Fringe Festival run, it was given five 4 star reviews, shortlisted for best show for the prestigious Edinburgh Comedian’s Choice Awards, and was on the British Comedy Guide’s Highly recommended list.
Sophie Zucker is a New York-based comedian. She’s currently a writer on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” Previously, she acted and wrote on three seasons of AppleTV’s “Dickinson.” She performs all over New York solo and with her comedy group Ladies Who Ranch, who have been featured on Adult Swim. You can see her next in the upcoming HBOMax film “Sweethearts” alongside star Kieran Shipka. She is down to hang out.
